Open space and landscapes for hikes, picnics, bird watching, and other
activities are among the many natural resources in Prince George's
County. Check out descriptions of regional parks, countywide parks, dog
parks, local parks and trails available through the Department of Parks
and Recreation.

Countywide Parks
Patuxent River Park is comprised of more than 6,000 acres of natural area park lands along the eastern boundary of Prince George's County. Much of the land contains valuable natural and historical resources and is governed by a "limited-use" policy. The following properties within Patuxent River Park are open for public use:
- Aquasco Farm
- Billingsley Point
- Cedar Haven Fishing Area
- Clyde Watson Boating Area
- Chesapeake Bay Critical Area Tour - a 4-mile, self-guided tour that connects the Patuxent River Park with the state's Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary
- Fran Uhler Natural Area
- Governor's Bridge Natural Area and Canoe Launch
- Jug Bay Natural Area (Park Headquarters)
- Mount Calvert Historical and Archaeological Park
- Patuxent River 4-H Center
- Patuxent River Scenic Trail at Queen Anne
- Queen Anne Fishing Area
- Queen Anne Canoe Launch
Dog Parks
Is your dog ready to run legally, off-leash and make new friends? Dog parks offer fenced-in areas for large and small dogs to exercise and socialize. For the protection and enjoyment of all park users, please observe all dog park rules.
Riverdale Dog Park
The Riverdale Dog Park is a new addition to the existing Riverdale Community Recreation Center. The fenced Dog Park includes:
- 0.78 acre area for large/medium dogs
- 0.21 acre area for small dogs
- Accessible on street parking for two vehicles
- Accessible walkways
- Sitting areas
- Water fountain
- Shade trees
College Park Dog Park at Acredale Community Park
College Park Dog Park is open for members who would like to exercise and socialize their dogs. The half-acre area of the park is fenced for dogs to romp. For information, or to join, write to:

Heurich Dog Park at Heurich Community Park
The Heurich Dog Park is a one-acre fenced area for dogs to play off-leash with fellow canines. The park includes separate areas for large and small dogs. Future improvements will include a pavilion for shade, agility obstacles, and a drinking fountain. Funding for the total project is $100,000, paid for with Maryland-National Capital Parks and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) bonds. No membership is required.
Local Parks
Local parks include neighborhood and community parks that range in size from less than one acre to just under 200 acres. Facilities at developed local parks vary from site to site, and include combinations of sports courts, athletic fields, picnic areas and shelters, trails, sitting areas, horseshoe pits, fitness clusters, recreation buildings, and play equipment. The Commission operates and maintains more than 6,000 acres of local parkland throughout Prince George's County.

Regional Parks
Regional parks encompass more than 200 acres each and offer a variety of facilities that include athletic complexes, small boating/lake operations, nature centers, campgrounds, trails, play areas, picnic areas, and tennis bubbles. Large portions of each regional park remain undeveloped to provide woodland and green space in a natural state. The Commission operates four regional parks in Prince George's County; each one offers a variety of facilities for different recreational pursuits.

Features
Nearly 7,000 acres of regional stream valley parkland throughout the county provide open space, natural beauty, and watershed protection, along with opportunities for recreation. The stream valley parks join neighborhoods and communities and provide the setting for many trail connections between developed park sites.
